Module 1: Hyde Park 1886
Hyde Park was established in the 1880s by Henry B. Plant when he purchased 20 arces, subdividing it and naming it Hyde Park. Plant named this area Hyde Park after his home town in Illinois. He then built the first bridge crossing the Hillsborough River, which was meant to support the Tampa Bay Hotel. Before Plant, the Jackson family owned the lands and sold food to the U.S. Army outpost at Fort Brooke in the mid 1820s.
